It's officially spring here in Jericho and we are reading to jump into warmer adventures! Our Winter Reading Challenge was a great success. We met our goal and read over 3,000 books in just 2 weeks! We celebrated our accomplishment with a visit from Jerry Pallotta. Students and staff were entertained and encouraged to continue reading and writing.
More events are in the works and we look forward to an exciting remainder of the school year. Students have been checking out books, taking active roles in their learning, and engaging in so many fun activities!
We just had our first author visit of the year. Alex London was a blast! He taught us so much about writing and was so funny! We have another in-person author visit this year and some virtual experiences as well. After the holidays, we have World Read Aloud to look forward to. We have over 20 authors scheduled for grades K-5! Following World Read Aloud Day (February 1), we will gear up for our Winter Reading Challenge. Stay tuned while we figure out what we will challenge Dr. Rivera to do this year! As always, please let me know if you have any questions or comments. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season! We had such an incredible year back in our library! I am already planning and getting excited for next year. This summer, make sure you keep reading! Join the public library summer reading club and log those books! We will celebrate all your summer reading when we see each other again in the fall. Please continue to use Sora if you need access to e-books. Have a great summer! This school year flew by! We were so busy and had so much fun. We are looking forward to many fun activities throughout the month of June. The Jericho Public Library will be visiting our students to discuss the Summer Reading Club. The public library is a wonderful resource of books and activities to keep us busy all summer long. Check out their website for updates and information! https://www.jericholibrary.org/
Wow! Fall flew past us and winter has starting coming on strong! We have been very busy this year. Thanks to our generous PTA, we have had 2 very successful author visits by Doreen Cronin and Dan Gutman. The children were so inspired to read and write.
We are warming things up and getting reading for our two big winter events. World Read Aloud Day is on February 2, 2022. We have 22 authors scheduled to read to our students in one school day! More information will be sent out. Beginning February 7, our Winter Reading Challenge will be off to a brisk start. We will run the challenge for 3 weeks this year and challenge our students to read 1,000 books a week!!! Click above to view updates to the Reading Challenge and to keep an eye on the Leaderboard once we begin. Welcome back! We are so excited to start this school year! The best news is that the students at Jackson Elementary School will now have the opportunity to come visit our school library. We are going to focus on using the physical library, as well as our digital resources this year. Students will have an opportunity to be curious, explore and discover so many new things!
At Jackson, we fought the cold this year by setting a school-wide goal to read 5,000 books in 5 weeks! We are almost there and look forward to celebrating our accomplishments!
